The south Indian khara Pongal is very spicy and easy recipe in Sankranthi festival . Pongal is usually made with ghee , you can use ghee instead of oil . Ghee does gives a batter taste .

The ingredients of preparing Khara Pongal .
- Rice - 2 cup
- Hesaru Bele or moong dal - 1 1/2 cup
- Curry leaves - 6-7
- Black paper - 1 tsp .
- Jeera - 1 tsp
- Matured seeds - 1 tsp
- Cashew nuts - 6-7
- Pinch of hing .
- Oil - 4 tsp
- Green chillies - 3
- Turmeric powder - 3
The preparation of a khara pongal .
- In the pressure cooker add, oil . When it becomes hot , add the mustard seeds , jeera , curry leaves , green chillies , cashew nuts , Black paper and fry for a few minutes . Next add the moong dal and fry . Next , add the rice and fry until the rice changes colour .
- Finally add 5 cups of water , and also salt to taste . Close the pressure cooker and allow for 3 whistles . Pongal is done serving to gojju .
