How to prepare a Vegetable samber

Vegetable Sambar is a delicious side dish for most of the South Indian recipes.Preparing the vegetable samber is a simple procedure . Vegetable Samber taste good when served with idli, masala dosa, rice , chapathi and uddina vada etc. Samber can be prepare from the vegetable such as cucumber, okra , beetroot , beans, potato , carrot , onion etc.

Vegetable samber Required Ingredients are :

Cooking time  150 minutes
  • Preferred Vegetable - 1/2 cup
  • Grated Coconut - 1/2 cup
  • Water - 4 Glass
  • Salt -3 tsp
  • Coriander seeds - 4 tsp 
  • Mustard - 2 tsp
  • Cumin (jeera)  - 2 tsp
  • Red chilli - 3 to 4
  • Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder ( haldi) -1 tsp
  • Hing - 1/4 tsp (asafoetida) 
  • Toor dal- 1/2 cup
  • Curry Leave - 4 leaves.
  • Oil - 1 tsp
  • Tamarind paste - 1 tsp
  • Urad dal -3 tsp

How to  prepare a vegetable samber

This will prepare Sambar for 4-5 people.
  • Cut your preferred vegetable and keep it aside.
  • Clean the Toor dal in water. 
  • Cook the Toor dal with water in a pressure cooker and keep it aside.  
  • Clean the tamarind paste  with hot water and while cleaning remove the pulp and keep it aside.
  • Add red chilli, Onion cumin, mustard, hing, urad dal, turmeric powder and oil,to  pan and fry the ingredients. 
  • Fried the ingredients should be Grinded smoothly.
  • Now add vegetable and stir well.
  • Add 1 cup of water and cook in medium flame for  4 to 5 minutes.
  • Add toor dal ,tamarind juice and salt(As per your taste)  to the vegetable samber in low flame .
  • Add Corriander leaves to garner the Sambar. Add tempering  to finish the Sambar.
